Godly Play

Our Godly Play program is offered in two classrooms. The first class is for ages 4 through 1st grade and the other is for 2nd through 5th grade. The kids start out in the service and leave after Children’s Moment. As they leave, they bring the light of Christ from the sanctuary into their “sacred” space. This program acts as the children’s service.

The kids learn about the Bible through story telling with wooden figures and other visual aids. After the story there are a series of wondering questions which help the kids reflect, relate and understand the story better. Next, the kids have a “feast” where they give thanks to Christ through prayer. Then, they have time for a personal response to the story which is done in a variety of ways (i.e. painting, using play-doh, retelling the story, writing in a journal, etc.).

Some past stories that have been covered include: Baby Jesus is Presented to God, Follow Me, A New Teaching, The Parable of the Fishnet, Noah’s Ark, The Ten Best Ways to Live, The Ark and a Tent for God, The Promised Land, The Temple, a House for God, Exile and Return, The Good Samaratin, The Sower, The Parable of the Two Sons, The Good Shepherd, and the Advent stories.
