Special Congregational Meeting

The Executive Board of Central Christian is calling a Special Meeting of the Congregation for the purpose of considering the Board’s recommendation for an Intentional Interim Pastor. The meeting will be held in the sanctuary on Wednesday, May 30th at 7:00 P.M. The Search Committee has spent several months considering input from the congregation, reviewing applications and interviewing candidates for the Intentional Interim Pastor position.

The Executive Board on May 15, 2012 voted unanimously to recommend approval of the candidate and to call this meeting. Following opening comments by the Executive Board Moderator, the Chair of the Search Committee will introduce the candidate to the congregation. The candidate will then preach a short sermon.

Attendees will then be asked to vote by secret ballot whether we should extend a call to the candidate. The votes will be counted and the results announced at the meeting.

We invite and encourage all members of Central Christian to attend this important event for our future. We ask for your continued prayers as Central travels this journey.

INFORMATION SESSION ON THE INTENTIONAL INTERIM PERIOD

Please come to an information session in the sanctuary on Wednesday, May 16th from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. The Rev. Dr. LaTaunya M. Bynum from the Regional office will provide information on the Search and Call Process, specifically the intentional interim period and calling an Intentional Interim Pastor. The committee is well into the search process and this information session is an important part in the next stage of our journey. We hope everyone will take this opportunity to learn about the purpose of the intentional interim period and what our congregation should expect once we call an Intentional Interim Pastor. For an intentional interim period to be successful, the congregation needs to be open to studying its history and discerning God’s call for the congregation before calling a settled pastor. Clergy who answer the call to serve as an Intentional Interim receive specific training that prepares them to facilitate these processes.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this information session. There will be a question and answer period following Rev. Bynum’s remarks.

Vacation Bible School

Guess what? It’s time for Vacation Bible School! This year, we are going OVERBOARD!

VBS will take place Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28. A light dinner will be provided at 5:30, followed by VBS fun from 6:00 to 8:00 each evening.

ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

Sacred Music Extravaganza

Spirituals, anthems, bell choirs, instrumentalists and soloists are just some of the excitement in store for you during the upcoming Choir Fest on April 21st at 7:30 pm. Actually a music festival, selections will be provided by a 41 voice choir and 28 bell ringers from three Dayton area churches. Beautiful music, provided by good-looking people from Zion Lutheran Church, South Park United Methodist Church and Central Christian Church, will fill the sanctuary on that evening. We hope that you will do your part to fill the sanctuary, too. Dinner will be offered in the Fellowship Hall prior to the music festival at 6:00 p.m.

CYF BAKED POTATO & SALAD BAR LUNCH

Coming soon to a Fellowship Hall near you! Please join us on Sunday, November 13th immediately following the Traditional service for the CYF’s Baked Potato and Salad Bar lunch. This is a great opportunity to fellowship with friends and enjoy a hot potato and a crisp salad. The cost is $5 per person with a maximum family cost of $15. Children under 5 will eat for free. COMMUNITY FALL FEST/ TRUNK-OR-TREAT

Central will be hosting a community Fall Fest/Trunk-or-Treat on October 22nd from 4-7 pm. We hope to feature a trunk-ortreat (cars lining the parking lot with trunks filled with goodies), hay ride, games, face painting, cider, snacks, and maybe even a bounce house! Admission will be monetary donations (as able) to the Kettering Backpack Program or nonperishable food items for our Food Pantry. But, to make this event a success we need your help. We need at least 16 volunteers to:

Operate a hayride (2)
Run games (2)
Face paint (2)
Serve at the information/donation table (2)
Man car trunks for the trunk-or-treat (8)

We also need people to loan/donate: A riding lawnmower/trailer for the hayride, hay bales, candy. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you can help, let the Keaton’s or Melissa Moody know. This is a great way to reach our neighboring community, family and friends while raising funds and food for two very worthy causes.

Kick-Off Sunday: September 11, 2011

On Sunday, September 11th, we will officially begin our church year. Our choirs will perform for the first time of the new season, our youth groups will begin meeting again on Sunday evening, and we will kick-off many new opportunities for fellowship, learning, and spiritual growth. This year, however, is a little different than usual as it is the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. As a way of commemorating this sad anniversary, our Laudate Ringers will perform a special anthem accompanied by a moving slide show. Also, Rev. Turner will preach the sermon he delivered on the Sunday following 9/11. The message of hope, resilience, and God’s love remains as strong and as powerful today as it was in the midst our grief and shock. We look forward to great year at Central Christian Church!
